Ways we can work together
Some people arrive with a clear idea of what they need. Others have a rough thought, a problem they want to solve, or something they've been meaning to build for months. Both are fine.
I build websites, web applications and online tools, but you don't need to know which of those you need before we speak. We can start with the idea and work out the rest from there.
Built for you
You bring the idea. I'll take care of turning it into something real.
This can be a portfolio, a website for your business, a landing page, an interactive tool, a web application, or something that doesn't fit neatly into any of those categories.
You don't need to arrive with a technical specification. You might have a finished plan, a few examples you like, a sketch, or simply an idea of what you want the finished thing to achieve.
We'll work out what actually needs to be built before worrying about how to build it. From there, I can handle the design, development and launch, with you involved at the points where your input matters.
How it works
Talk
We start with the idea. What are you trying to make, who is it for, and what should it help them do?
Shape
We turn that into a clear plan. That might mean simplifying the original idea, adding something important, or deciding that the best solution is different from the one you first imagined.
Build
I design and develop the project, sharing progress with you along the way rather than disappearing until the end.
Launch
Once everything is ready, I'll help get it online properly and make sure you understand what you own and how everything fits together.
Pricing depends on the scope of the project. I keep it straightforward and competitive, and we'll agree what is being built before work starts.
Build it with me
Make something yourself, with someone alongside you when you need help.
This is for people who want to build their own website, web application or online project rather than simply hand it over to someone else.
We work one-to-one on your actual idea. This isn't a programming course built around exercises you'll never use. The project itself is what we learn through.
You don't need a technical background, and you don't need to know what tools, frameworks or services you should be using before we start.
I'll help you work through the decisions, understand what you're building, solve problems when you get stuck and get the finished project online.
The aim is that you leave with more than a website. You should understand your project, feel comfortable changing it and be more capable of building the next thing yourself.
Who it's for
It could suit a creative who wants their own portfolio, a freelancer building something for their work, a researcher with an idea for a useful tool, a small-business owner who wants more control over their website, or simply someone who has always wanted to make something of their own.
The important part is that you have something you actually want to build.
Fix or finish it
You don't have to start again. Bring what you already have.
Maybe the project works but doesn't look quite right. Maybe the desktop version is fine and the mobile version isn't. Maybe you've got most of the way there and hit a technical problem you can't get past. Or perhaps it has simply become one of those projects that never quite gets finished.
I'll take a look at what you have, work out what's holding it back and help get it over the line.
That might mean improving the design, fixing broken functionality, restructuring part of the project, sorting out deployment, or simply giving it the final round of attention it needs before you can confidently put it in front of people.
Your project stays yours
I don't think working with a developer should mean becoming dependent on them.
Where it makes sense, your domain, code, hosting and other production accounts stay in your name. I can have access where I need it, but the project remains yours.
If you want me to keep helping after launch, great. If you don't, you shouldn't have to untangle your own website from somebody else's accounts first.
Got something in mind?
You don't need a finished brief before getting in touch. Tell me what you're thinking about, even if it's still rough around the edges, and we can work out whether I can help.
